what i can do
A rotational moulding industry veteran with over 40 years experience in the plastics industry. My background includes : 15 years in colour extrusion and size reduction of powders. Working for ICO CourtenayMore than 20 years in rotational moulding operations. Working for Nylex Water Solutions, Bushmans & Halgan. The most recent 15 years have been involved in the manufacture of drinking water, wastewater and chemical tanks, using a variety of equipment; from rock & roll open flame machines to bi-axial hot air ovens. I have previously served as President of ARMA (Association of Rotational Moulders Australasia), and on the board of ARMO (Affiliation of Rotational Moulding Organisations). I have also written many technical articles for Rotoworld, the global industry magazine. Extensive technical and practical knowledge of water and chemical above ground storage tanks up to 46,000L capacity, as well as below ground wastewater separation tanks, septic tank and water storage tanks up to 10,000L capacity. Able to provide advice on effective Quality Control methods and procedures to manage both raw materials and moulded products. Troubleshooting quality problems. Identify how to minimise or eliminate air bubbles in moulded products, and why they are present through powder evaluation and equipment process review. Provide in house training. Astute mentor and coach who has initiated training of shop floor staff to improve understanding of moulding processes and support continuous improvement in manufacturing efficiency. Production problem solving. Capable of undertaking assessment of manufacturing operation highlighting key areas for improvement, as well as providing hands on assistance to staff within the business, when required. Materials selection and improvement. Identify what you have and what you need. Outstanding technical understanding of rotomoulding materials and additives (Polymers, Colour, AO & UV). Productivity improvement opportunities for reducing heating and cooling cycles. Extensive experience with work flow and operation of open flame rock & roll machines, as well as shuttle & carousel hot air biaxial ovens. Product development and design. Improve profits and reduce costs by using my skill, knowledge, and extensive experience in design, product engineering and design verification using Finite Element Analysis (FEA). Implement recognised quality manufacturing processes and procedures. Ian has successfully commissioned multiple moulding facilities to meet the Certified requirements of AS/NZS 4766 Tank Standard, which is recognised as leading the world in product quality standards for rotomoulding. As well as maintain certification of moulding facilities to AS/NZS 1546 Able to use and train staff on correct operation of sophisticated internal air temperature process control tools like ‘Rotolog’ and ‘Templogger’, as well as use of alternative simple & low cost internal air temperature process control for rock & roll equipment. Optimise part quality and minimise premature failure. Experienced in optimising material properties by defining the material/mould process window. Able to provide training to production staff on how to check proper cure of moulded parts, and why this is important. Management experience covering a wide range of manufacturing areas; Production, Quality, Safety, Supply, Customer service, Maintenance, Engineering, Product development and Design.
